As a facilitator, I’m known for delivering fast-paced, interactive, culture-shifting workshops underpinned by a keen eye for team dynamics and a deep passion for quality facilitation. My goal is to deliver workshops that spark a shift in beliefs, mindsets and behaviours.
I love working with teams who want to turn the mirror on themselves, and explore how they can build a strong, resilient, high performance culture within their team; a culture where people get the best out of themselves and each other through the encouragement, feedback and generous mutual support that world-class teams exhibit.
What brings me here? Rewind to my AFL career: nine years as a solid team player with Geelong and Richmond. I was used to hearing from coaches, sports psychologists and various motivators. But it was a facilitator from an organisation called Leading Teams who really struck a chord. I was not just intrigued, I was blown away by what I learned. About myself. About how culture impacts team performance. About the difference between personal and professional relationships and how to have tough conversations with colleagues. The facilitator challenged us. He helped us to reach consensus on how we wanted to be as a team and what standards we wanted to uphold. We bought in. I saw our culture change for the better. My performance and that of many others improved. Dramatically. I knew then that I wanted to help others experience being part of a team transformed by an improved culture and team dynamics.
I went on to learn and work for Leading Teams for 13 years, delivering culture-change programs to elite sporting teams and corporate organisations. The work also included working with indigenous communities, prisoner groups within the last 6 months of their sentence, and secondary school students. Four years in an internal consultant role in a large finance and accounting business (3000 staff across 110 offices) followed. Along the way I studied a Masters in Business Management Practice specialising in Organisation Development and Change Management, and collected countless hours of team development research.
I didn’t find my specialty, it found me – helping teams to fine-tune their culture in corporate, local government and small business teams. In 2015, I started Elite Team Dynamics specifically for that purpose and have since delivered my team development program to hundreds of teams in Australia and New Zealand. Nothing beats the satisfaction of helping leaders build truly cohesive and effective teams that deliver results.
I believe in teams learning and growing together. I also believe independent, expert facilitation is still a wildly undervalued service required to develop genuine psychological safety and trust in a team, which is the foundation for great team performance.
When our need to feel safe in a team environment is met, our energy and focus can pour into the team’s shared mission. We can lock into our role and the tasks we’re being asked to deliver. We are comfortable being vulnerable in our quest to get better. We feel secure enough to help others and point out where we could be better as a team. We can be ourselves. We feel that we are respected and that we matter. We feel included. We can be a good teammate here.
That’s why my business exists.
I currently live in Geelong, Victoria, on Wadawurrung land, with my wife Natasha, and two sons Liam and Caden.
